Let me get this straight, The same govt. knuckleheads that have run up an 11 trillion dollar debt, may loan billions more that they don't have, to an auto industry that builds cars that people either don't want or can't afford, and(this is the joke) these same knuckleheads are going to tell said auto industry how to build cars! Now that's funny. ;D ;D ;D Their going to appoint a CAR CZAR , Hillarious. Maybe Detroit should borrow the money from Japan. The CAR CZAR could be the CEO of Toyota or Honda. I can't believe that the once great US auto industry has fallen to this level. Makes me sad. :'(
-
You are correct sir! It is a crying shame. The "Car Czar" will probably be appointed
by some committee formed to examine the extensive list of potential candidates and
when all is said and done, The appointee will be someone who the committee believes
will encompass all of the knowledge and experience to hold this esteemed post.
"Dateline, Today the auto industry announces the identity of the "Car Czar",
It is HILLARY CLINTON!!
NNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
-
This is just getting too freaking bizarre >:(
-
I want a bailout :o
-
I'm glad we are getting the bail out!!! I work for a Chevy and Dodge Dealer so I get to double dip!!! O0

When Reagan broke up all the unions, starting with the Air Traffic Controllers, how was the UAW overlooked? A year or so ago they negotiated what was presented as a cut in pay when in reality, they get lump sum payments instead. http://www.uaw.org/contracts/07/gm/gm02.php
Everytime I see a news report, all I see is robots. What are these auto workers doing for their $35-$45 per hour?
-
I can't wait to see what the new offerings will be like. Totally green, eco friendly, peddle powered,??

Here's something else to think about: Ford has spent the last thirty years moving all its factories out of the US , claiming they can't make money paying American wages.
TOYOTA has spent the last thirty years building more than a dozen plants inside the US The last quarter's results:
TOYOTA makes 4 billion in profits while Ford racked up 9 billion in losses.
Ford folks are still scratching their heads, and collecting bonuses...
IF THIS WEREN'T SO TRUE IT MIGHT BE FUNNY

Fact of the matter is, the American workers in Japanese auto plants here, only average $3 - $4 less than their Unionized counterparts at the Big three. So it's clearly not the Unions so much as it is big management making terrible money losing decisions.

the sweet retirement benefits the UAW got the workers decades ago is a big problem . Layed off workers also get 95% of their salary. One guy on the news has been layed off for 4 years. SWEET deal if you can get it. I want to buy American but I don't think it's fair that the UAW expects us to pay for this nonsense. My wife just got laid off by Pilgrims Pride and she got what I thought was a fair severance but nothing like the UAW. BTW I'm actually some what pro union with in reason. Now Nancy Pelosi wants to tell Detroit to build green cars that few want. Brilliant! Nancy running GM, Ford and Chrysler. YOU ALL WILL BUY AN ELECTRIC CAR! IT"S THE LAW! Jeeez, I'm almost glad I'm old . My apology to the younger generation.

so the govment gives them the money, how does that build more cars for them to keep people employed?
as long as they insist on giving money away, why not give every household a tax voucher good for 70-80% of the cost of an average car from the big three? then i get a new car, a tax refund that i can also spend, the big 3 gets to build me a car and keep their workforce in place.
so, if they gave you a tax voucher good for 70-80& the cost of a new car, would you use it?
HELL YES!

That makes too much sense, you obviously are not qualified to run for office. ;D

I hate to say so, but I probably wouldn't use it to buy from Ford. I have had good luck with the Fords I have owned new and used over the past 40 years, but this last deal on a new truck they charged me a 300$ fee for some non sense that the dealer said he would take care of. Stupid me, I took his word for it. 6 months later I start getting calls from some lawyer in Houston. After many trips to the dealer and many assurances that it was taken care of Wrong!!! the lawyer kept calling. I was mad, and going to court in spite of the fact that gas and lodging would have been 5 times the 300$.
My wife paid it. I am still fighting mad at Ford. Thieves and low life scum at every dealer I talked to. After being a life long customer, I won't bend over for them ever again.

Car Czar = Socialized Auto Industry
Welcome to the beginning of the Socialists Republic of America, boys and girls. ;D
Drank the Kool-Aid, didn't ya?!? ;)
-
My Dad's been ranting for many years now about how the pension plans of Ford and Chevy were gonna bankrupt 'em,,,
I guess I'll have to pay a little more attention to him,,, O0

Looks like the Senate stopped the talks. ;D
I say take the Big Three and turn it into the Little 300 or let Honda, Nissan, and Toyota CEO's run with the ball.

It seems that the UAW is satisfied with 100% of nothing for its members vs. 70-80% of something, I guess??!! That was and is still one of the largest problems with this whole fiasco of a "plan".

I would have to agree with you Snake. There has been a definite Socialist trend over the last 6-8 months on Bush's watch. However, the Dems DO have control over both the House and the Senate soooooooo.....
But in any case, I myself have lost respect for Bush's lack of conservative balls. >:(
Would any of us even be considering the idea of the Government bailing any of these idiots out 2 years ago? I think not and I believe it will become more of a socialized government in the next 2 years for sure as the Senate, House and President will all be controlled by Dems.
I will however say that I am somewhat suprised at some of Obama's choices over the last few weeks. They are more central than I would have originally thought he'd have chosen.
I still think the name Car Czar is about as close to a communist name one could come up with. 'Cept maybe Hitler's Hatchback Hoorah! ;D

Kinda reminds me of that old cartoon of the guy out on the end of the plank, just sawing to beat hell through the plank! ;D 8)

Car Czar, Drug Czar, same difference, waste a lot of money, make the problem worse than ever. Then demand more money. Not a bad gig for the one who gets it.
-
After demanding more money, the individual will eventually leave for a cushy job with the companies he oversees.
