I'm on the fence.  I think I have only missed one of these since it started.  Last year was great, except for all the rain - right Mike??  It is a blast.  Riding with you guys last year made the whole trip worthwhile.

That said, I am a bit burned out on that section of Colorado.  Especially around the 4th.  I may pass this year in favor of an off holiday trip to Cody, WY and/or Mt. Rushmore areas possibly to include a run up/down east Utah, west CO.  Probably less on the miles side and more on the stop and look side.

Anyway - too early for me to call it.  Heck - the way the economy is, I just hope to have a job and the money to feed the need!  Keep posting and get me fired up!  I can knock over a C-store!

See some day soon - I hope!

Yeah Bobby - a 2009 Road King has been calling me a lot lately.  Then I looked at a Gold Wing.  Isn't orange but it is my favorite color - RED.  That RK is really tough to ignore.  6 speed, 6 gallon tank, 54 MPG, electronic cruise, electronic throttle plus way cheaper than the Wing.  I just gotta stop this!!  Wife still very POed at the very thought of a new bike.  She is contributing to global warming!! :'(

Riding with you gents was the best part of last year.  The roads were very crowded compared to other years.  Down right scary on the Mt. Evans run.  Glad we have time before locking in.

Kenny - I will be at BBT and Sprang Thang fur shur barring something unforeseen!!  Wouldn't miss Sprang Thang and Billville.   O0 O0

Cool dudes!! O0 8)

Talking with my bro-in-law from Minnesota the other day, told him I'm not flying up to ride a Victory around the upper Midwest again; want to ride the Feejer somewhere. Colorado is a possibility, especially if I could get up there in the near record time Kenny "The SPOT" VtreX got up there last year...

Jeff...last year Kenny and Pete took murray61 & myself under their wings.  Each day we went by ourselves (4 of us) on our own rides.  Pete & Kenny input the rides into their GPS and away we went.  And it will be cool this year riding out to the racetrack on Friday evening.  I plan on leaving the weekend  before to do some extra riding.  Originally going with a friend to S.D. (Badlands, Sturgis, Mt. Rushmore, Deadwood, down thru Devils Tower into Denver), not definite.   After last year, I don't think I will ever get tired of riding the Mt. High.

It can be ridden in one day from Houston, but it will require a day to recover.  So - no matter what, it is a two day trek.  Usually there is a stop in Amarillo, but if you push, you can make Raton and have a short 2nd day.

From Houston to Amarillo, 586 miles.  Amarillo to Denver 420.

Much of the usual route is boring as a 35 year old marriage.  Still some fun spots but they are far apart.

The trip through here need not be that bad. There are some good roads, they are not 4 lane and you may not make the best time on some, but on others you can have no traffic, hills, curves, scenery, and very few LEO's. Some just want to get there, others want to enjoy the ride. I'd be happy show off my dismal part of Texas to any wanting to see the 2 lane side of it. There is nothing here that competes with the Colorado Rockies, but we do have things that will leave ya scratching your Cranberries and wondering why. I haven't given this much thought yet, but if there are those who want to do more than get through here as fast as they can, a plan can be arranged.

I'm leaning in the direction of Co. I went in 04...it was cool but I wasn't big on group rides then, and I'm still not. Six bikes in a group is enough, imho. I made one ride and the rest of the time I road alone. I'm sure I missed a lot, but I missed it in my time frame and didn't have to watch a bunch of other riders. Just the hundreds of other people and bicycles in the curves  ::)
I'm going to sit down with my boss and see if I can get 2 weeks back to back so I can go visit some of the other Sates like Utah, Wyoming and Montanna.

Just slip to the back of the pack with the tailgunner, Bill. Also, as you know, they have all the rides printed out (heck, I think I even have them all via pdf if you'd like them?) so you can do the same rides with one or two others.

Sorry, I've been out of a pocket for a bit.

This should be just about right regarding the path to Lakewood.  http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=Houston&daddr=35.137879,-101.821289+to:lakewood,+co&geocode=&hl=en&mra=dpe&mrcr=0&mrsp=1&sz=6&via=1&sll=34.770375,-100.234635&sspn=16.58976,33.75&ie=UTF8&z=6

I've taken that path just about every time and is MUCH better than Kansas, I assure you.

Thats a state hard paid for when you get it filled in Oz, you even get to welcome bugs flying towards your shield just to break the monotony, lol. I was happy to see a fire (small) once, 'cause the smoke rose way up and turned into a real cloud up there. That was the most happening on the way through Kansas in July heading to Colo. Couldn't live tere, I don't believe.

Snake - you are correct.

Oz - the ast time I went through Kansas the wind blew the mirrors off my 1989 Bronco!  The rest areas are out-houses so watch for spiders/scorpions/wasp nests.  You may hope the swelling stays but you will pray the pain goes away!  Kansas is truly the bung hole of the planet and I don't care if Miss Kitty lives there!  I think the color you will be looking for is "Skid Mark BROWN!"

Snake - Ditto what Kenny said - when are you coming out of your hole?

Kenny,

BillyBob knows all about the time I ran out of fuel; I told him about it the same day I was helping him. However, I didn't tell him that, later on the day that I ran out, I bought BBQ for 8-9 people, some who had helped me, and some who had not, but who had met up with us later on. Just taking care of the folks that took care of me. And I also took care of BillyBob, not accepting his gracious offer to pay for the gas and gas can; just telling him to help the next guy that needed it. Kind of a Pay It Forward thing... Or I guess, as you would say it, what goes around comes around.

Any other questions?  :stickpoke:

IF all goes as planned, I'll be flying up to Denver June 29th, taking a taxi to Sun Honda, and picking up a 2007 Wing that has been sitting around the factory. They will also be taking delivery on a 2008 Red one with, I think 3900 miles or so. It is the air bag version. They said they would be asking $18,995 for it. If interested or you know someone who is, call Mark Kite at Sun Honda soon.
I am planning on heading to Mount Rushmore and Devils Tower after getting the bike before heading back to Denver for the Coloradical. It's going to be great to have a bike again after 15 months.  I have to buy a new helmet, too, I guess. See you up there!!!!!! Joe
P.S. They have some 08 X's for about $10K. Don't know the colors.

No sh*t.... sounds like my ride to Big Bend last year. Every 100 miles, to let the Hardly riders gas up, and hit the head, after all that shakin' caused their bladders to fill up.

That was my point with the X and not the wing. Was fuel every 100 miles. It was suggested beaux that I would ride the Wing.

Kenny...I assumed the ride on the "Wing" would be more comfortable for you and that you would not have to stop as often if you were to try and make the trip.

7 or 8 of us will be in a group.  Most of the group will be leaving from Houston on Wed morning (7/1) at the crack, no doubt.  2 will be coming from Kingsland.  I suspect we'll be meeting up somewhere around Ft. Worth or a bit before.

We'll be continuing to Amarillo for the night.  We'll be in Lakewood, CO the next day.
