Title: Snow storm in panhandle
Post by: tom cat on March 26, 2009, 12:29:44 PM
Expecting 6-14 inches of snow with wind 40mph - 55mph. Don't even think of riding or driving up this way. This is why I don't ride far from home this time of year. It should start tonight, all my fruit trees are in bloom, so no fruit to pick this year. I will do up dates if the computer stays on line.

Lubbock will get snow, but we are under a blizzard warning up here. It gets ugly when the snow starts drifting, usually making the roads impassable. I have been caught on the bike in these storms, not on my to do again list. Now it is sunny and 68 wind 10 to 15 from the south, good riding weather as long as ya stay close to home. I have not planted a garden yet so no problem there. We sometimes loose power during these storms.
The last one that caught me with my pants down, I was camping, snow collapsed the tent, the roads were drifted over, we sat it out playing cards and drinking in what we could salvage of the tent. Good thing we had more booze than a sane person would bring for a overnight camp out. By the time the road grader came to our rescue we had missed 2 days of work, and were in no mood to be rescued. We had a great time, but the wife's wanted us back at work.

It hit, snow coming down in a big way. Its not deep yet, just enough to cover the ground. Visibility around 100 yards.

"The National Weather Service said snowfalls of up to a foot and winds gusting to more than 45 mph could lead to snowdrifts of up to 20 feet before the storm wanes near midday Saturday."

Sounds like you're in for a cozy weekend... :)

Dalhart is reporting drifts over 10 feet tall as of noon. Yea I don't plan on getting out any more than necessary. I got the mail just now, the wind chill is at 0. Snow is still going strong we now have around 3 inches.

I kinda left the door open there, didn't I. Snow still falling. The kids just took the german shepard puppy out to play in the snow. The weiner dog is not having any of it. She is sitting on the couch shivering. The snow is deeper than she is tall.

I have enjoyed about enough cold weather. My wife got called in to work graveyard shift last night. On the way home she hit some kind of junk covered in the snow in the road. I know the plastic under my engine is all torn up. Other than that, I have not got around to checking the damage. I'm glad she was in my truck not her car. When I went to bed last night the drifts in front of the house were about 4 feet high. It was warm today and most of the snow is melted. I'm ready for a ride south not north.

Lubbock was windy and cold... nothing to see or do there... I did stop on the side of the road and send the G/F to get a cotton ball (too cold for me to get out)  it was a cool road trip, I wish I had taken the bike untill I got there, very windy and dust every where.  I took 36 all the way to 20.   very nice route.

Yes, and no, it all melted just in time for another one to hit this morning. Enough to cover the ground, but it was melted by noon. The wind tore off some roofs and turned over trucks. I got a wrong # call from some business wanting me to go to Alva Oklahoma, to repair wind damage to a truck. The wind is likely to stay in the 40-60mph range for at least another 5 days.

I didn't take any, but my brother in law did. I'll get my son to do the post for me, as I don't know how to do picks on the computer.
